क्यों 

गुज़र रहा है वक़्त 

अब तो रुक जा 

यूँ ही बैठे रहें 

कुछ गुनगुनाते हुए 

अब तो बहक जा 

मख़मली धूप में घुल कर 

छलकते दरिया में बहकर 

बस ठहर जा

क्या जल्दी है 

कहाँ जाना है 

मैं यहाँ हूँ 

पहुँच गया हूँ 

जहां जाना है 

अब कुछ देर 

ज़रा ठहर जायें 

वक़्त गुज़रता है 

तो गुज़र जाए 

The trap of the screen

The screen flashed

And the phone chimed

Illuminating the ceiling

For that brief moment

Setting the insomniac mind 

thinking

Wondering who could that be?

And what could it be?

An unnecessary thought

But unstoppable nevertheless

Gnawing the edges of the brain

Till the skull felt the scratch 

And then it was unavoidable

The phone was grabbed

And screen stared at the eyes

Coming alive with enticing smile

And then started narrating 

The endless tales

Scrolls of them  

Scroll after scroll

Endless and mindless

Till the real story was lost

And dreams were seen with open eyes

And then it was dawn

And the day looked large

To make the eyes droop

I am tired already
