There is No Bulb

We gathered in the balcony.

Sipping whiskey and watching the dark night.

Silently reflecting and occasionally making conversation. Nothing in particular and none too serious.

Music filled the pauses in the conversation. Each one having their own conversation in their minds and a customary one with the others.

The night was nearing early morning.

The balcony was amply and a tad bit overly lit. It would have been perfect, but the mood and theme was not resonating with the abundant lux that the white LeD lights were exuding.

It was the night, that we needed to see and not show ourselves to the night.

A lamp shade hung from the ceiling. Aesthetic (and a bit rustic) with minimalistic perforations. It seemed ‘perfect fit’ for the current need and theme. The minimalistic lights would be just enough to make us aware of each other yet keep us obscured and private.

We asked the hostess, if we can switch on the hanging lamp on and shut down other brighter LeDs.

Without out looking up, while still staring at the thick night outside, she said casually and matter-of-factly…

“Bulb Nahin hai. Nahin Jalega.”(It won’t light. It has no bulb)

It was a simple yet profound statement.

We sat and silently pondered on the statement. Staring at the night and sipping whiskey.

Sometimes, one has everything external to be the right choice. Much beyond the other brighter prospects.

However, if the internal spark is missing, it can never work, no matter which switch you click and whatsoever volts of electricity is pumped in.

If there is no bulb. It won’t light

“Bulb Nahin Hai. Nahin Jalega”

This phrase is usable for many occasions and contexts

  • To describe a person, who wouldn’t fit
  • To describe an idea which won’t resonate
  • To describe a plan which won’t work

“Bulb Nahin Hai. Nahin Jalega”
