Swimming
Frantically
Trying to stay the course
Roaring waters
Have a plan
a set path, in store
flapping hands
flailing legs
keep me afloat
there are no oars
no sail
no boat
onwards
towards the fall
to the eventual end
avoiding a boulder
barely navigating
the gruesome bend
you may survive
but finally
you will fall
no matter
what you try
a fate you can’t stall
that’s if
you keep swimming
trying to stay afloat
screaming for help
keeping a lookout
for the saviour boat
but, what if
you take a leap
flap your wings and fly
no longer wet
soaring up
towards the sky
then
if you look down
you see it all…
the bends
the spec of a boulder
and the fall
now they are beautiful
harmless
not scary
I am gliding
in the winds,
in bliss
and not weary
the fall
seemed a
resigned fate
only when I was
swiming in the river
in spate
River is
no longer my fate
now that I have taken the flight
soaring higher
boundless,
limitless like sky
